Salem - A Historically and Culturally Rich City

Salem - A Historically and Culturally Rich City

When was the last time you visited Salem, other than Halloween of course?  If you are looking for a community in which to settle, Salem offers a culture rich in history, easy transportation into Boston, and a surge of great new restaurants.

As a resident of downtown Salem, I enjoy walking through the historical sections of town.  The downtown area boasts many historical sites, such as Witches House, the House of the Seven Gables made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Salem Common which is where the first muster of the National Guard took place.  You can also get lost in the maritime history of the city at the Peabody Essex Museum and along the waterfront at places like Pickering Wharf and the Salem Maritime Historic Site.

Downtown Salem is also a great location if you work in Boston.  Imagine stepping off the commuter rail, then walking home to the McIntire District featuring Federal style homes and tree lined streets.  From May through October, the Salem Ferry runs between the waterfront to Boston's Long Wharf in under an hour. If you are just visiting for the day, you can rent a bike from Zagster's Bike Share to take you around to the quaint shops and unique sites.

Salem has seen a surge in great restaurants as of late.  The newly built Hotel Salem boasts a roof deck bar which offers 360 degree views of surrounding towns.  Ledger is located in the former Salem Savings Bank building and hosts a menu of wood fired New England cuisine.  Pickering Wharf offers several waterfront dining options such as Oyster Level Sea Bar or Finz, which recently moved into a larger space with expanded outdoor seating.  Salem is also home to Notch Brewing and Far From the Tree Cider where visitors and locals gather to sample unique libations.
As a resident of Salem, and real estate agent, it's been wonderful to see the restoration of this famous city.  Take a look my top favorite homes in Salem, and contact me when you are ready to begin your home search!
